Riverside Beat Priority Update

Good morning all,

As we come to the end of September, please see the following message, as well as further messages, highlighting some of the work we have completed around this quarters priorities on the Riverside beat. After this month, a fresh set of priorities will be set for the months of October, November and December.

Youth Anti-social Behaviour 

Throughout September and the start of the new academic year, the team have continued to be in our open spaces to engage with youths as well as community centres including St Andrews Play Association. Our officers regularly attend here which proves to be a really positive engagement to ensure young people are aware of their local beat officers and understand the benefits of feeling confident to speak to police. 

Also, this month saw the start of freshers week at De Montfort University. Although students at the university are older and into adulthood, the large crowds and new communities in the area have previously attracted anti-social behaviour from youths around the location, causing harassment, alarm and distress. Fortunately, this year, it hasn’t been the case. The whole beat team have been involved in welcoming new faces to the campus, providing a really good opportunity to positively engage with them and get them signed up to neighbourhood link and following the correct police Facebook page so they can stay up to date with what’s happening in their area. 

Summer anti-social behaviour on the Riverside beat this year saw a significant decrease in reporting. Hopefully, this also meant it wasn’t happening as opposed to not reporting to police. As we move into the next quarter, our focus will be around protecting the people who use the university and its facilities, as well as other members of the public, into the darker nights.
